An Organized Toy Corner

Because my sister works in retail and her SO is in the restaurant business, my mom frequently watches my four year old nephew, Sam. Mother nature has completely taken over and sent my mother into full on grandma-style “can’t stop, won’t stop spoiling my grandchildren” mode. As a result, she’s built up quite a stockpile of toys for Sam behind her living room couch. And as you can see, it was a complete disaster area …

Luckily, my mom has a highly organized daughter, so when I was home for Memorial Day, I helped her add some order to this space.

Book Review: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

IMG_3697I finally finished the New York Times Best Seller, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. Friends had been recommending the book to me for quite awhile now, and I finally made a pit stop on my lunch break at the local book store and picked it up. The book was a quick read and pretty easy to digest, so I breezed through it in only a couple of weeks of light reading before bed.

When I first picked it up, I was surprised to find that there were no pictures. I think organizing is a very visual activity and I was nervous about reading an entire book on the subject with nothing to help me visualize the spaces. It turned out that the book was less of a step-by-step guide and instead focused on the bigger picture.

For the Love of Decor 5/15/15: Five of my favorite accessories and where you can find them

Hey organized ladies and gents. I’m starting a new monthly segment, where I highlight some pieces of decor or fun items that I’m currently loving. Like this post if you like it and want to see more, and comment to let me know what you want to see next!Screen Shot 2015-05-15 at 10.25.08 AM

Vase: Pair with some red silk flowers and you’ve got yourself a subtly patriotic look, just in time for memorial day.

@ shelf accessory: Add a little web to your offline world, for the social lady in all of us.

Bowls: Who doesn’t love a simple and feminine gold accent? Almost too pretty to eat out of. Use these as an accessory tray or a place to stash your keys.

Hanging wall organizer: 1, 2, 3, 4, I don’t know what I love more … it’s galvanized metal or it’s perfect organizing system for mail.

Pens: Perfect for summer, these pens will have you singing “Part of that world,” while jotting down notes in your next meeting.

I’m one of the few lucky millennials out there who has an extra room in my apartment. Affectionately referred to as a “den,” the extra room has become part office, part beer brewing laboratory, part craft/blog/planner room. One of the things I really wanted when we upgraded to an apartment with extra space was a desk that I could craft and write at, and boy did Matt deliver. He built this six foot desk from scratch to go right under the window. It’s so beautiful! Have a look …
